Get involved.

Fancy joining in? We’re a friendly bunch and we love to welcome new people on and off stage.

There are loads of ways you can get involved. We usually produce three to four shows a year - so there’s always something you can get stuck into!

On stage.

If you love the limelight, come and audition for one of our shows. We don’t mind if you’ve never acted before, or if you’re a seasoned performer — everyone is welcome!

We hold open auditions for every show we produce. All you need to do is turn up and be prepared to have fun. You can find out about our auditions on our Facebook, X and Instagram pages, as well as this website. As a member you’ll also be notified through our regular newsletter.

You do not have to be a member to audition and will only be asked to join the company if you are offered a part or a backstage role.

Off stage.

A theatre production isn’t just about the people on the stage! Plenty has to happen behind the scenes to make any show a success.

If you have production or backstage skills, or there’s a role you’d like to learn, get in touch! Production teams are often formed long before the audition process but it’s never too late for a new face and we’d love to welcome you along.

Who makes a show?

Every show we produce has a whole team behind it and we’re always looking for new people to join in! So who’s in the team, and what do they do? Here’s a quick guide…

Director.

In charge of the overall look and feel of the play, helps actors to give their best performances, usually needs lots of coffee.

Production Manager.

Heads up the production team, in control of budgets and keeping everything on track, normally very organised and loves stationary.

Stage Manager.

Heads up the backstage crew, responsible for risk assessments and props, generally a list-maker with a pen behind their ear.

Technical Manager.

In charge of lighting and sound crew, plans light and sound setups, always has electrical tape to hand.

Designer.

Works with the director to plan and achieve sets and costumes, will always have scissors available at all times.

Backstage Crew.

Works behind the scenes moving props and carrying out scene changes, looks great in a black t-shirt.

Light & Sound Crew.

Operates the light and sound cues during the shows, probably has a secret biscuit stash.

Maker.

Works with the design team to make costumes, sets and props, usually covered in paint.

Marketing.

Makes sure everyone who lives in Peterborough knows about the show and books tickets, writes press releases and takes lots of photos.

Front of House.

Welcomes the audience to the shows, uses the booking system, smiles lots.

Our Values

These pillars of success were first inscribed way back in 1947 when Mask first took to the stage.

They have guided and grown alongside us ever since…

Mask Theatre Values

In the spirit of integrity, collaboration and inclusivity, it is expected that all members of Peterborough Mask Theatre, regardless of tenure, subscribe to the following set of values:

  • As members of the Peterborough Mask family, we endeavour to produce plays of high quality that excite and delight our audiences.

  • We are not afraid to challenge ourselves, each other and those who watch our shows, with our artistic choices. However, we remain respectful in our approach.

  • We recognise that everyone involved in a production is freely giving of their time and energy, but we expect commitment from each other and hold each other to account.

  • We assume positive intent in all that our fellow members say and do.

  • We continuously strive to adapt and improve to meet the changing needs and expectations of each other and our audiences.

  • We support each other in every endeavour, both on and off stage.

  • We are welcoming to new members from all walks of life.
